    During my practice this morning, while doing a round "no hands" it came to me that I should just try to do my rounds [where I do use hands] that I should pretend that I am actualy not using my hands. I tried this while doing the Birds tail combination, and I seemed to be leading more from my waist. I am not compleatly sure though [it might have been all in my head.]

    Today I added something to my practice. After working on the hand form I started a round but, after I completed the first Single Wip I went into Fair Lady Weves at the Shuttles.
    Then when the round of 'Shuttles' were completed I started Single Wip following on with the Bird's Tail series again and followed into Single Wip then back to 'Shuttles'. Having done this series four or five times I then finised the 'set' off with the remainder of the Frist Third starting from Single Wip.
    It was quite nice. :)

    Today I emphised development of the root. During my practice my focus was on the dan tian and the bubbleing well [which seems more active.] I am also trying to increase the amount of time I spend in standing meditation.
    While I was doing a round 'no hands' this morning I realy found a problem doing the 'spin and heel kick' my balance was quite off. Adding the hands to the form realy changes one's balance.
    The problem with this time of day [5:30 am] is that I keep thinking about my morning coffee. I generaly spend 45 to 60 min practicing in the morning, and another 30 to hour in th afternoon. This does veary.

    Today while I was in a wide 'Preparation' pose and practicing moving the Chi from one 'bubbleing well' to another it seemed to me that the energy when moved from one 'well' to the other well also moved the energy to the hand [lau gung] of the leg that was now heavy. So that the rule of 'cross substantation' did not appaly. When my left foot was energeticly heavy, then my left hand was also heavy, and not my right hand as it should be with 'cross substantation.'
    It is possable that I am wrong, and that I am not yet subtal enough to see [feel] the energy is flowing as it should with 'cross substancation.' Though when I do have one leg physicialy heaver then the other then I can feel the effects of 'Cross substancation.'

    During my practice this morning I tried to use the breathing technique' which you keep you breath long and thin. It did not go very well at all. I rarely felt that I could get a reasonable breath. I found that I was having to take conventional breaths during the form. In doing this I felt quit out of sync...
    Well to day I had an interview with Tim Russel who leads and teaches a sword class here in Chattanooga. Happily for me I was accepted to the class which has been together for a few years. The class currently has four students in it. I am very happy to have been accepted. The form is the 24 Form T'ai Chi Sword Form.
    Tim also told me of a person who teaches the Professor's form here. The Hand form that Tim does is a Chen Style.

    In my practice today I worked on weight distribution. I noted the energy in my hands and feet.
    I also spent sometime working on trying to direct the energy through my waist.
    One of the things I did today was to do a whole round without using my hands. There were spots that were definitely 'less good' :). Doing the spin just before the 'Heal Kick' was challenging. It is quite different with out having the arms to act as a balance. It was the same with the 'Lotus Kick.'
    I am having a problem keeping my energy down during some parts of the from.

    Today I went with Eliz for a walk, and while I was pushing the pram I took the opportunity to practice (or try to) separating my weight while I walked.
    I have been rereading Cheng Tzu's Thirteen Treatises on T'ai Chi Ch'uan by Cheng Man Ch'ing and in treaties eight Cheng Tzu's mentions walking and feeling the energy in your substantial hand and foot. I thought that I would give it a go. Needless to say I was not very successful, but I did note some differences in energy. Particularly between the left and right hand. The energy seemed much more acute when my right foot and left hand were substantial.

    This morning I did a round, then worked on 'Cloud Hands.' I noticed during my morning practice that while I was doing 'Cloud Hands' my knees hurt, so I looked down at my feet and the left foot was straying outwards instead of pointing forward. After I had finished the form I worked on 'Cloud Hands' for a while, and then did some weight shifting exercises.

  • I tried [for a laugh] to do the whole form without hands. I got as far as 'Golden Cock Stands on one leg' then it fell apart... :)

    I have noticed while practicing T'ai Chi that the placement of the tongue on the roof of the mouth really makes a difference to how the energy manifests itself in the hands.
    Firstly, during my daily practice I have been placing my tongue on the soft part of my palate. I have noticed while doing that there seems to be more energy in the palm of my hands (the lao gung [spl.?] center.)
    The other day I thought I would try something different, so I tried placing my tongue on different parts of the roof of my mouth. It seems that when I place my tongue just on the rise behind the front teeth; the energy manifests itself mainly in the tips of the middle fingers.

    Still working on the weight distribution, especially with the turns where 100% of the weight is in one leg. My shoulders still feel a little stiff epically when doing 'Cloud Hands.'

    Mind in the Tan T'ien - did it help? I tried to keep my mind the Tan T'ien, but it kept wondering away... :)

    Working on balance still. Right shoulder is more stiff then the left one.
    My weight is not quite sinking, but every now and the it seems to shift.
    Hands tingle as I shift weight from foot too foot. The left hand is much more sensitive.
